California has implemented a new training requirement for both resident and non-resident agents selling life insurance in the state. Effective January 1, 2025, agents will be required to complete a four-hour training course before soliciting clients. The course focuses on all individual life insurance policies except term life with no cash value.
Training completion deadline
Producers licensed prior to January 1, 2025, must complete the training requirement by July 1, 2025. Producers licensed on or after January 1, 2025, must complete the training requirement prior to engaging in the sale of life insurance.
Where to find the required course
Approved courses can be found on the California Department of Insurance website. Under Search Parameters, select the following options from the dropdown menus to get a list of approved 2025 courses.
